Do your beneficiary designations still reflect your wishes?

Estate plans erode silently — through outdated designations, uncoordinated wills and overlooked powers of attorney. We bring the gaps to light before they become costly.

Review My Estate Plan

Estate planning is not only about what you leave — it is about how it transfers

Many Canadians have a will but have not reviewed it since a major life event — a second marriage, the birth of grandchildren, the death of a named executor, or a significant change in asset values. The will is only one layer of the estate plan. Registered account beneficiary designations, TFSA successor holders, jointly held property and life insurance proceeds all pass outside the will entirely, and they must be coordinated with it. Betajbeta reviews every layer of your estate plan, identifies conflicts and gaps, and produces a written summary of recommended changes. We work alongside your estate lawyer; we do not draft legal documents, but we ensure the financial and legal layers are aligned.

What an estate planning review covers

We examine every document and designation that determines how your wealth transfers.

Beneficiary Designations

RRSP, RRIF, TFSA and life insurance designations are reviewed against your current family structure and compared to your will's intentions.

Power of Attorney Alignment

Your continuing power of attorney for property must be held by someone with the financial capacity to act. We review the current designation and flag potential conflicts.

Probate Exposure

Assets that pass through the will are subject to Ontario probate fees. We identify opportunities to reduce the estate's probate exposure through legitimate planning strategies.

Spousal Rollover & Tax at Death

We model the deemed-disposition tax triggered at death and assess whether a spousal trust or direct rollover is more tax-efficient for your estate's specific asset mix.

“After my husband passed, I discovered that his RRIF still named his first wife as beneficiary — a designation from 1998 that had never been updated. Betajbeta now reviews every designation annually as part of our ongoing engagement. I wish we had started that process years earlier.”

What falls outside our estate planning scope

Betajbeta provides financial estate planning coordination — not legal drafting. We do not prepare wills, powers of attorney, trust deeds or any legal instruments. Our written recommendations are intended to be shared with your estate lawyer, who retains responsibility for drafting and executing legal documents. If you do not currently have an estate lawyer, we can provide a shortlist of Ottawa-area practitioners we have worked alongside, though we do not receive any referral compensation for doing so.
